Google Launches 5 New Digital Wellbeing Apps in Play Store

Sadique | 24 Oct 2019 | Android Apps/ Google

Such has been the smartphone’s invasion that it has practically shifted us away from social life. There has been a rather thick line drawn between the social and the digital aspects of life, with more ditching the former for the latter. To curb this digital addiction, Google went ahead and bought about the Digital Wellbeing along with Android 9.0 Pie. We have already covered in depth regarding Digital Wellbeing, so I wouldn’t divulging into that much over here. But recently Google has launched several new Digital Wellbeing apps in the Play Store. Let’s have a look at each one of them in this guide.

One thing to keep in mind is that all these are experimental Digital Wellbeing apps. Hence you may face stability issues in some or all of them. So use these apps keeping this point in mind.

1. Unlock Clock Digital Wellbeing App

unlock clock

The first app part of the new Digital Wellbeing apps is the Unlock Clock. This app is a live wallpaper that displays a running tally of the number of times you have unlocked your device in a day. This will help you keep a live count of how many times you have used your device throughout the day. To set this live wallpaper, start by downloading this app from the below link. Then head over to Google’s Wallpaper app and set it as a live wallpaper.

  • Download: Unlock Clock

2. Post Box

This app gives you more control over how you receive notifications. Instead of getting constantly spammed by notifications throughout the day, the app lets you choose a time (four, to be precise) over which you would like to receive all your notifications. However, if you fear that you may miss certain important notifications, this app has it covered for you as well. You may simply use the option “I need to see my notifications now” at any time you need to view your notifications.

3. Morph Digital Wellbeing App

A pretty interesting addition to the Digital Wellbeing apps. Morph is an Android launcher that shows different apps based on the time of the day or your location. You just need to add your home, work, and other such address. Next time when the app notices your location, it will automatically suggest the app to use. For example, in my case, the app showed Gmail, Calendar and Drive apps at the workplace. One thing to keep in mind is that it is a launcher. As a result, you would have to ditch your current launcher to use this feature.

4. We Flip

Another of the Digital Wellbeing apps that help to keep all your peers and family away from the digital world. You’ll have to define a group of your family or friends. Then each member will have to install this app on their device. Finally, they will all flip a switch to start a new session. As the session starts, the app starts counting the amount of time all your members of the groups are away from their devices.

As soon as someone unlocks their device, the session breaks and everyone gets a summary report. The culprit could easily be identified via that report! Moreover, you cannot even peek at your device to check for notifications. We Flip could easily identify those peeks as well and will discontinue the session right away.

5. Desert Island Digital Wellbeing App

The last one to make the list of new Digital Wellbeings apps is Desert Island. As you might have guessed, you will be given a handful of important apps at your disposal to “survive” the day. You will have the liberty to pick up a certain number of crucial apps and then start the 24-hour challenge. This challenge will help in identifying whether you could really stick to only the essential apps throughout the day.

One thing to keep in mind is all your other apps would still be accessible to you. But accessing them during the challenge period will destroy the sole motive of this app. Moreover, you wouldn’t want a failure summary report from Desert Island, would you? Similar to Morph, it is also a launcher app, so you would have to make your choice accordingly.

So these were the 5 new Digital Wellbeing apps launched by Google. What are your thoughts on this? Are you going to try these apps or you are quite satisfied with the Digital Wellbeing feature that is already present on your device? Voice your opinions in the comments section below.
